Not the Sharpest Crayon in the Box

So far the past two weeks have been long, hellish and have I mentioned long?  All I've pretty much done is get up (at the very last minute), go to work (often at the last minute or perhaps a smidge later, oops), stress, train students, stress some more, go home, fall into bed, repeat, repeat, repeat.

So we can safely assume that the internet and I have been a bit estranged these long, long weeks.  I feel like I've been Rip Van Winkle-ing for a hundred years and everyone has flying cars and tvs that play in their BRAINS or something.

WHAT HAS BEEN HAPPENING, INTERNET?  I NEED TO KNOW!

I started on my neglected Google Reader tonight around 2:30am.  Ya'll, I didn't finish until almost 5am.  I now know what everyone and their dog was up to during Labor Day weekend, what Kate wore, and Zara is now available in the US. Which, I'm sorry, Kate looks darling in Zara but the stuff I saw on the website was a bit, umm, not.  Also, that model is a leeeeetle bit scary.

So two and a half hours later, my eyes are burning, tears are streaming down my face and I'm still on the computer.

Memory Loss or WTF am I talking about?

Taking a quick break from ILL, reserves, student schedules and any of the other 5 million things I've been doing today.

Second semester started today and I am back to my old 3pm-midnight schedule.  (Thank you, God!  Btw, can you stop winter?  Just a little?  Hugs and kisses!  Me.)

Monday we had a mini blizzard.  If by mini you mean zero visibility and by blizzard you mean holy cow, I can't see my house from the driveway!  So I only worked for four hours on Monday and then Tuesday we had orientation for transfers, an overload of ILL, no students, reserves needing to be put on NOW FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, NOW!  Btw, bringing books in the day before classes start to be put on reserve does not the brownie point receive.  Wednesday (today) we were swamped.  I sent out a call for help and our lovely ILL student came to the rescue whittling the scary 39 items awaiting processing down to 16 waiting to be scanned for tomorrow.

Anyway, that was a long winded back story for my next story.  (Well, not really back story.  More like back vent.  Is that a word?)

I was filing some reserve slips when I saw the folder we keep for one specific class that always has the same books go on reserve.  Our last secretary had put it together (complete with label and everything!) a few years ago.  I decided to just glance at it as I need to take them off of reserve now.  One of the lists was a print out of the barcodes with handwritten titles under it.  I was just thinking what a sweetheart she was that she took the extra time to go through and double check that what we had on reserve was the same as what was on the list when I took a closer look.  And felt like a total idiot.  It was my own handwriting.  Done before I knew how to print off both barcodes and titles together apparently.  Not that I can remember doing it in the first place.

Don't you just wish that you work with me?

Snow Day!

When I got to work today, I had a surprise. I was walking up to the library and I saw this mass exodus of students coming from the library. One of the ILL girls waved at me and I went over to talk to her. This is our conversation.

Me: Hey. Are we closing?
Her: (looks at me funny) Yeah. We got an email saying you weren't coming in and that we were closing.
Me: (moment of silence) Well, I wish I would have gotten that email.

So we got a (paid, I think) snow day and we'll know by 7am if we get tomorrow off as well.

I decided to use the time wisely...ish.
  • I put away the baskets of clothes that had been languishing in my bedroom for the past few weeks
  • Matched up all my socks
  • Washed my comforter (yes, the washing machine is big enough for my queen comforter!)
  • Washed my new flannel sheets
  • Washed my king comforter (also big enough!!)
  • Washed my king blanket/throw
  • Picked up a whole lot of stuff
  • Got rid of a small garbage bag worth of clothes
  • Drank a half gallon of chocolate milk
  • Vegged on the couch and bed with the kitties
Still planning on doing before bed/tomorrow if another snow day
  • Wash dishes
  • Make bed
  • Vacuum
  • Wash two sets of sheets
  • Wash dirty clothes (1-2 loads)
  • Wash towels (1 smallish load)
  • Clean bathroom
  • Clean kitty boxes

Confusion and Cleaning

My mind has started to slip.  I got out of my car today and noticed that I had forgotten to change my shoes.  I am wearing my flip flops that I wear for around the house and after showers.  I had my shoes all ready to change into but apparently my brain had other ideas.  At least I wasn't wearing my slippers.  Although the pink and purple stripes would look absolutely darling with my teal shirt.

Possibly I am still suffering the aftereffects of the ILL & Copyright webinar I attended yesterday.  The presenter completely freaked out one of my co-workers before we realized that what the presenter said and what was true were two totally different things.  That was fun.  Also, very confusing and brain hurting.

When I got home last night, the only thing I wanted to do was something not brain hurting.  Cause pain and I  are totally unmixy things.  So I told myself that I was going to read until 6pm.  Then I was going to get up, make supper and do some stuff around the house.  When I finished the book at 8pm, (it was a Dresden File, okay) I went on a cleaning spree.  Very unlike me.  I picked up all the garbage in the living room, dining room, kitchen and bedroom.  (I had a lot of juice boxes.)  And all the dirty dishes.

Then I started on the laundry.  As in I took all the wrinkled clothes from my dining table and put them back into the dryer to get rid of the wrinkles.  I was totally surprised that they came out sans wrinkles.  I actually hung them up right after the dryer buzzed.  The stuff to be folded is still in the basket but hey, it's just pjs and undies.

After I talked to my mom and got ready for bed, I got really ambitious.  (And if you're asking why, I have no idea but it my have something to do with what's happening on Friday.  But you'll have to wait. ^_^)  I cleaned up my counter, put everything away, got all the dirty laundry out, put away all my random crap and then.

And then I cleaned my toilet.  I am ashamed to say that I had never done this.  My mom does it when she's here.  (hangs head in shame)  It was just as disgusting as I had thought.  Also, I had two little helpers.  I put Emme and Kisa into the bathtub so they could watch the never-before-seen event.  (My cats love the bathtub and are ecstatic when they can play in the water.)  Then I had to flush the toilet about twenty times before I felt that the water was now safe for them to play in.  Then I closed the lid because I am paranoid.  And shut the bathroom door because I am neurotic.

So more cleaning when I get home.  In preparation for Friday.  Which I'm still not going to talk about.  Except to say that I am soooo excited and if it doesn't work out, I will cry.  Cry like the little girl that I am.

Baby, It's Cold Inside

It is July. Almost August. I'm wearing jeans, a long sleeved shirt, and a jacket and have not one but two space heaters running and I'm still frozen. Can someone please turn the A/C off!!!

The Most Boring Subject Ever

Day One of Copyright class:  Blah, blah, 1710, blah, Statute of Anne, blah, blah, blah, copyright, blah, blah, Guttenberg Press, blah, blah, blah, blah.  Snore.

Day Two of Copyright class:  Blah, blah, rights of the copyright holder, blah, blah, blah, exemptions of copyright, blah, blah, laws aren't laws only guidelines, blah, blah, blah, can't be sued for major moolah.   Confused snore.

Day Three of Copyright class:  Practical applications in ILLiad.   Please be more interesting than the last two days.  It can only get better, right?
